HR Departments must appoint a senior manager responsible for data protection matters. HR staff (including temporary staff) need to understand their obligations, in particular they should only access data they have need to know in the course of their job, a change to their contract of employment may be required.

Personnel data should be kept secure and only available to staff on a 'need to know' basis.  If the company has a recognised trade union or staff representative committee they should be consulted about data processing procedures.
