Complete the checklist below whenever significant change occurs within your office environment.  If you answer ‘no’ to any question consult your manager. 

Furniture

Is your desk or work surface large enough to position equipment and documents to allow comfortable working?

 

Is there space in front of the keyboard for you to rest your arms when not typing?

 

Can the height of your chair be adjusted to give you a comfortable sitting position?

 

Does the chair give you sufficient lumbar support?

 

Can the height of the desk be adjusted to allow a comfortable arm position?

 

Does your chair allow you to sit comfortably when working?

 

Does your chair have a stable base?

 

Can you rest your feet on the floor when working? (If not you need a footstool)

 

Computer Equipment

 

Can you use your mouse without stretching or the cable snagging?

 

Do you have a mouse mat?

 

Do you know how to adjust screen brightness and contrast?

 

Can you view your screen without having to twist your neck?

 

Is the document holder, if you use one, stable and set so you can read things easily? (necessary only if you frequently work with copy)

 

Is the screen clean?

 

Is the screen positioned to avoid distracting reflections of window, lights etc?

 

Is the screen positioned to avoid glare?

 

Is the screen image easy to read, stable and free of flicker?

 

Are suitable cleaning materials for the screen available?

 

Can you read the screen or work documents without difficulty? (If 'no' arrange an eye test).

 

 

General Safety

 

Does the equipment have a current Electrical Test Certificate?

 

Are cables securely connected?

 

Does the cable sheathing appear intact?

 

Are cables positioned so that people cannot trip over them?

 

Are there sufficient electrical sockets or a suitable, fused multi-plug socket for all the equipment in use?

 

 

Office Environment

 

Is the room temperature comfortable for working in?

 

Are noise levels low enough not to interfere with your concentration?

 

Does the room humidity appear comfortable?

 

Is the lighting bright enough to move around safely?

 

Is the lighting for your adequate to allow you to read documents and your  keyboard?

 

Is equipment safely positioned to avoid people knocking into it?

 

 

Work Organisation

 

Have you organised your work to avoid long periods of uninterrupted computer work?

 

Are you able to carry out other work away from your computer?

 

Have you got appropriate software for what you want to do?
